Homemade Granola: The Perfect Hostess Gift

It's hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner! People are already thinking of gifts to give their family and friends. But let's not forget Thanksgiving! This uniquely American holiday is a day not only for gathering with family and friends, but it is a day to give thanks for the many blessings we have been given.

This granola recipe is not only delicious, but it is also a great gift to give. Are you going to be a guest at someone else's Thanksgiving table? Some of this granola in a Mason jar with a festive ribbon is the perfect gift to give.

Granola Recipe

5 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup dry roasted peanuts
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup slivered almonds
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup flaked coconut
2 tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 cup mini chocolate chips
1 cup honey (local, raw, and unprocessed is the best!)
3/4 cup coconut oil, in liquid form

Optional Ingredients: About 1 cup each--raisins or other dried fruits, wheat germ, ground flax seed, or sesame seeds.

Mix all the ingredients except the chocolate chips, honey, and oil in a large bowl. In a separate large measuring cup mix the honey and oil. You can gently heat the honey to mix it easily. Pour the honey mixture over the oat mixture and stir until fully coated.
Line two jelly roll pans with parchment paper and spread the oats evenly on the two pans. Bake at 250 degrees for 15 minutes. Stir the mixture and return to the oven for another 15 minutes. Let cool completely. Stir in chocolate chips and store in sealed container.
